Hands on
Africa—all ages
Taught by Ryan Frost

These dynamic sessions will provide hands-on opportunities to learn about the drumming, dancing and singing traditions of
West Africa.  Through oral and aural sharing of music, students will become familiar with traditional instruments, playing techniques, musical styles and cultures of this region.  Sessions will include a variety of activities that will aim to enhance students’ listening skills, communication skills, confidence, leadership, teamwork, and improvisation.

Rock Studio—High School
Taught by Gary and Linnea Lambert and Jesse Dagel

Love music?  Want to record your own CD? This course will teach songwriting fundamentals, and then take the newly written songs and learn the CD recording process.  Participants will create CD artwork and take home their own CD of their music.

Art of Jamming—Middle School

Chad Elliott

In this class
Chad will lead the students in exploring the “Art of Jamming”.   There will be a number of instruments available for each student to try out.  Some of the instruments provided will be various styled guitars, bass, banjo, dulcimer, fiddle, electronic keyboard, and handheld percussion.  Students will learn rudimentary skills on each of these instruments and Chad will pick a key for students to play in and together they will create music.  The emphasis of this class will be to build the confidence in the students and show the relationship between each of these instruments.   At the end of the week, the students will also get a chance to record some of the jam sessions!


Theatre

Theatre 101--High School
Taught by Marta Barnard

From acting to auditions, script analysis to vocal technique, Marta’s workshops will provide actors of all levels a chance to perform and grow.  Monologs for auditions will turn into a final performance piece.  Actors will learn how to analyze a script, create characters through movement and improvisation-- all while learning to use your voice and mask in innovative new ways.  Students are guaranteed a good time and lots of hard work that will pay off in the final performance.  An age appropriate clinic with Second City will end the week.


Art

Clay—Middle School
Taught by Hank Hall

Hank Hall will teach students the entire clay sculpture process, from beginning to end.  Students will learn basic hand-building techniques for making pots and sculptures.  Throughout the week, students will learn finishing techniques of carving, burnishing, embellishing, painting, and glazing.
