Participants will design rings, bracelets, and brooches. Blanchet will show completed samples and demonstrate how each is made. Students will be breaking, smashing, assembling, and gluing recycled objects.
Participants can search their attics, garages, or junk drawers for treasures to use, or get them from a family member. Some things that can be recycled into wearable jewelry include any broken jewelry (or parts of jewelry), ceramic plates, coffee mugs with straight sides, and silverware.
Students will need needle-nose pliers and are asked to bring at least one old, broken, or unworn piece of jewelry that means something to them. Most other materials will be supplied.
The class is open to adults and older youth. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Because of limited space, preregistration is required. Call Arts on Grand at 712.260.4515 for more information or to register.
